Springs into Action on Saturday April 9!

The Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack encourages adventurous Northwest art mavens to encounter the colorful creativity of one of our region’s most seductive urban environments. On the second Saturday of each month, Georgetown’s resident artists and surrounding businesses welcome the public to explore this enchanting industrial arts corridor.

Among the highlights of the April 9 installment: An improvisational music performance by accomplished experimental sound artist Rob Angus at Georgetown Records; "Assemblages: Form and Fragments" by collage artist Ken Torres at All City Coffee; the Nautilus presents “Wasteland,” a collaborative show by Corey Urlacher and Kat Houseman including

live music and belly dancing; abstract paintings by Katrina Wolfe at Calamity Jane’s; scenic photographs of Japan by Richard Walker at Vecta Photo with proceeds from sales benefiting the International Red Cross for relief efforts in Japan; resident artists Michael Hoppe, Mark Tedin, Julie Baroh, and Kyle Abernathy at Krab Jab Studios; the Georgetown Trailer Park Mall celebrates spring with assorted jackrabbit shenanigans, colorful treats and "Symbols of Synthesis" by featured artist Rose Jarvey in the Lula B canned ham trailer; a continuing exhibition of famed French cartoonist Jacques Tardi at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery; the Stables hosts a group show of Seattle artists curated by Twilight Artist Collective including Curtis Ashby (CASH), Jenna Colby, Twozdai Hulse, Xavier Lopez, ninjagrl, Rick Simpson and Linus Von Moos; and the casual cacophony that characterizes the creative Georgetown community.

Assaults Seattle’s Senses on March 12th!

The fabulous Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack returns on March 12. The neighborhood lights up from 6:00 to 9:00 PM with visual and performing arts presentations throughout the historic industrial arts corridor. This monthly event affords the public an opportunity to visit working artists’ studios and patronize the lively and diverse establishments that surround them.

Among the highlights of the March 12 Art Attack: The amazing Georgetown Trailer Park Mall celebrates Americana at its best with the debut of Charlie's Buns ‘N' Stuff, a trunk show of Frida Kustoms in the Frida Trailer Gallery, and live recording for theGeorgetown Trailer Park Podcast; Krab Jab Studio presents "The Alien-Pooka War" by artist Milo Duke; the grand opening of Vecta Photo, a photography studio and gallery in the Original Rainier Brewery, features photographs of Seattle Slam wheelchair rugby athletes (proceeds of sales will benefit the team); "Chalk:” new art by Mark LaFalce at Mark LaFalce Painting Works; the neighboring Seattle Sculpture Atelier features a preview of Spring classes; Calamity Jane’s hosts an assemblage and sculpture group show with Yvette Endrijautzki, Morbid Anatomy, Matthew C. Scott, Jack Howe and Brandon Bowman; Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery mounts an exhibition focusing on master French cartoonist Jacques Tardi with a slide talk by curator, editor and Tardi translator Kim Thompson; and the many wonderfully creative shopping and dining experiences that make historic Georgetown a priceless civic asset worthy of preservation.

Georgetown Art Attack Celebrates Third Anniversary

Since its inception in February 2008, the Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack has warmed the hearts of Seattle art patrons. This lovely showcase of adventurous visual and performing arts enters its fourth year on February 12, just in time for Valentine’s. What better way to celebrate this romantic occasion than with boisterous revelry in the heart of Seattle’s historic Georgetown industrial arts quarter?

Among the programming on February 12: Rat City Brass in concert at the9 Lb. Hammer; the first annual “Freakfest” at the Mix featuring Ramona the Band, burlesque acts, DJs and more; “The Chair Project” at Seattle Design Center with works by Laura Ward, Steve Jensen, Chris McMullen, Larry Calkins, Tom DeGroot, Piper O’Neill, Romson Bustillo, Brian Murphy, Jared Rue and Judith Kindler; “Lovesick” at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery with recent works by Bureau of Drawers cartoonist collective including Breanne Boland, Nikki Burch, Tom Dougherty, Scott Faulkner, Billis Helg, Tyler Hill, David Lasky, Calamity Jon Morris, Marc Palm, Sean Robinson, Mark Stockbridge, Ed Trumbule, Adam Watson, Dalton Webb, and Stevie VanBronkhorst; drawing and paintings with sculptural inclusions, found objects, and fiber by Joseph Larkin atNautilus Studio; a group exhibition at Calamity Jane’s with Richard Olmsted, Micheal Shephard and Anne O' Neill; painter and illustrator Anson Maddocks at Krab Jab studio; a blacksmithing demonstration by Andy Blakney at Firelight Forge and other open studios in the Equinoxbuilding; the Georgetown Arts and Cultural Center commemorates its fourth anniversary with resident artists Angelina Torrentino, Ed Lebel, Tiphoni, Lee Holcomb, Loie Gong, Breinna Hartman and Ted Wallace; Fonda La Catrina, Georgetown's soon-to-open Mexican restaurant hosts an exhibition by Angielena Vitale Chamberlain with the premiere of large paintings, live music, and DJs; a group show of heart art curated by Marq Dean, Amanda Dellinger, and Mary Enslow at All City Coffee; ArtCore Studios presents a new series of stencil paintings by Sullivan Giles focusing on the machines used by tattoo artists; Georgetown Trailer Park Mall features new work and live painting by muralist Henry Ward and friends along with a romantic collection of vintage trailers full of gifts, and sweet & savories by guest culinary artists Street Treats & Fusion on the Run; new works by Shawn Zeiger at the Firm; and the usual assortment of exotic characters and cuisine in one of Seattle’s most colorful neighborhoods.

The colorful Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack celebrates the holiday season on December 11 with a diverse array of challenging visual and performing arts presentations throughout the historic business district. Dozens of independent artists’ studios will be open to the public, joined by the many creative enterprises that make Georgetown a wonderfully unique civic asset.

Among the many highlights of the holiday Art Attack: Open studios at Equinox with live music, blacksmithing demonstrations, refreshments and the work of over 50 resident artists; Georgetown Arts and Cultural Center hosts figurative sculpture by Katrina Wolfe; the 4th Annual Holiday Artisans Bazaar Party with lights, treats and special guests at theGeorgetown Trailer Park Mall featuring soft sculptures by artist Rick Baker of Hallava Falafel in the Frida Trailer Gallery and a Trailer Park Cinema screening of “Santa Claus vs. the Martians” among other holiday classics; quilt artist Mary K. Parkhurst and photographer Sue Benyak at Two Tartes Café; a lively Art Jam at 9 Lb. Hammer featuring Georgetown artists creating works on site to a rhythmic urban beat; Holiday Art Sale with all paintings under $100 at the Miller School of Art; Bella Vitale studio features "Flamenco paintings" and cold weather glam clothing for humans and dogs by Bella Vitale; Brandon Bowman's fantastic metalwork and paintings at Nautilus studio; Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery’s fabulous 4^th anniversary party with music by Zak Sally and Mark Pickerel and “Medieval Thinkers” comix art exhibition curated by Friends of the Nib; hip hops at Full Throttle Bottles; stencil artists Randal Owen and of Dave Ryan at Calamity Jane’s; and much, much more.

Joins the Georgetown Art Attack on April 10

The wildly entertaining Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack gets rowdy on April 10 with the inclusion of Honk Fest West. In addition to countless art exhibitions, open art studios, performances, workshops and demonstrations, the Art Attack welcomes more than 20 eccentric marching bands from all over the country. The cacophonous Honk Fest West features free performances at several locations throughout the historic industrial arts quarter.

The diverse Art Attack programming on April 10 includes: Arun Sharma’s "(de) composition" autobiographical sculpture and film installations at Georgetown Arts and Cultural Center; open salons at Equinox Studios including a blacksmithing demonstration by Lisa Geertsen and studio sale at Firelight Forge; Dano Quinn at Full Throttle Bottlescreating custom switch plate covers out of tall boy beer cans on site; “Home,” a themed exhibition of children’s photography at proletariArt; "Fly by Night," new mixed media works by Joe Wackerman at FRIDA/Georgetown Tile Works; “High Soft Lisp” comics exhibition by Gilbert Hernandez with experimental music by Zinjanthropus and Ardent Vein at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery and Georgetown Records; a student show at the new Miller School of Art; “Circus Art” from members of the Twilight Artist Collective at the Stables; Angielena Chamberlain’s large oil paintings at All City Coffee with a miniature scale version of the exhibition on buttons at the adjacent Button Makers storefront; Honk Fest West performances at the Mix, Georgetown Music Store and other locations.

Georgetown Art Attack Saturday March 13, 6–9 PM

The colorful Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack enters its third year resolved to draw attention to the historic industrial arts district in an effort to generate public sentiment towards preservation of this enchanting civic asset. As many of Seattle’s formerly artist-friendly neighborhoods fell victim to frenzied gentrification over the past decade, Georgetown remains the last bastion of a cohesive creative community in the city. We believe activities like the monthly Art Attack will advance our preservation efforts.

The Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack celebrates is second anniversary on February 13, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Artist Statement:

I am an artist blacksmith living and working in Seattle for over 10 years. I enjoy the physical nature of hand forging metal into a natural form be it flora, fauna or figurative. My concept for this series is to have a collection of wall hanging sculptures that involve anatomical hearts. It is something we all possess and for me it is a symbol of life, strength and human emotion, many of our emotions stem from love, the emotion most commonly equated with the heart.

Elisabeth Vedrine’s current work falls into one of two series: Cambrian Explosion or Nature Under Glass. Both series have roots in her sense of the fragility and wonder of the natural world. The Cambrian Explosion refers to a period in Earth’s history when many new species of plants and animals arose in a short time period. Nature Under Glass expresses her sense that the natural world as we know it may be known to our children only through museum exhibits, separated from direct experience by a layer of glass.

Among the fun: A grand opening gala at Georgetown Music on the site of the oldGeorgetown Pharmacy with live music, new and used instruments and more; "Future", the second installment of The Story of Belle and Wissell and their adventures through time, featuring an animated holiday window display, activities, and seasonal party favors; Glass engraving artist Bird Kelly from Beeraphenalia showing custom pints and steins, with paintings by M. S. Georgetown Art Attack Launches Fall Offensive

Saturday, September 12, 6-9pm

The Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack continues to present provocative visual, performing and applied arts throughout Seattle’s most colorful creative community on September 12. The monthly Art Attack promotion is intended to raise regional awareness of the historic Georgetown industrial/arts district with the purpose of generating public sentiment toward preserving this valued civic asset. Aside from all that, it’s a heckuva lotta fun!

Among the highlights of the September 12 installment: An exhibition of underwater photography by Tom Radio and a musical performance by the Abiders at Calamity Jane’s; A punk rock Elvis tribute featuring The Kings at the MIX; An exhibition of mixed media art by Kim McCarthy together with new work inspired by 6os mod and Japanese street fashions by designer Lady Konnyaka at FRIDA/Georgetown Tile Work s; “Comics Savants,” an exhibition of 13 Seattle-based alternative cartoonists featuring a one day storewide “Back to Skool” sale at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery; A group exhibition of members of the Twilight Artists Collective at the Stables; An outdoor performance by Georgetown’s resident reggae ruffians Dubcar; and the general joviality associated with this lively and diverse cultural event.

MISSION: The Georgetown Super 8 Film Festival (GS8) is a community based event dedicated to the creation and sharing of un-juried, amateur super 8 films, with the goal of promoting individual creativity and community understanding. GS8 educates participants in super 8 filmmaking and provides them with equipment, free of charge, to make films, which are screened local venues for the entire community.
